Direct Sellers Have One Week to Settle Tax Bills

Individuals who sell directly to customers and take commission on sales have just one week left to come forward to HMRC and pay any tax they have outstanding.

Direct selling consists of selling directly to customers without the need of a shop and taking commission on sales. It can include demonstrating a product in a client’s home or selling at a party, or even selling door to door using catalogues.

As part of HM Revenue and Customs’ Direct Selling campaign, those who sell directly to customers have until 28 February 2013 to bring their tax affairs up to date. After this deadline HMRC will contact those believed to have outstanding tax left to be paid.

To take part in the campaign, direct sellers must tell HMRC about the tax due and make arrangements to pay any outstanding tax, interest and penalties owed by 28. They must also complete an online form available at: www.hmrc.gov.uk/campaigns/dsc-form.pdf
